928 Owners and Aficionados,

It is an honor difficult to describe in words to have the opportunity to contribute to the premiere issue of 928 Journal. I have enjoyed ownership of a 928 S4 since 1990, but it wasn't until recently that I stumbled upon the PorscheFans and then PorscheList Internet e-mail lists. Since that time, it has been a pleasure for me to nurture friendships with some of the most entertaining, honest, and dedicated people I know: you, the members of the 928 Owners Club.

As most of you will understand, my contribution to this magazine will be a regular report and commentary on the state of the Porsche 928 in the retail marketplace. I believe everyone is aware of the roller-coaster ride the value of our cars has been on for the past several years, and Porsche's discontinuing production of the 928 didn't help matters. However, you will be glad to note that I believe the 928 market to have bottomed out, and I've seen signs that as of Summer 1998, most values have already begun to rebound. Following is my report.

Terms used to describe a car's condition:

  • Excellent: near perfect, but not quite concours

  • Good: a weekend car or well maintained, average condition, daily driver

  • Poor/Rough: a car that runs and drives but has appar
