Roger Woodbury's "Driving Every Day" continues

from San Francisco. I think she still has both.

I drove the 928 down to Florida to see Jennifer and her new husband. A great trip in the 928, and one of the main reasons that I got it: long distance travel. The second thing that Jenny said to me, her eyes all shining, was:  "Can I have the keys, Daddy?". Oh, yes. She and Kevin are building a family and buying a house now, but Jenny will have her Porsche one day.

I think the rain and the rhythmic motion of the wipers in the 928 encourages philosophizing in the night. Too soon, I could see the lights of Ellsworth in the distance, and the miles from Portland had again been swept aside by the effortlessness of the 928. The trip is always too easy, too comfortable, too pleasant, and over too soon in the 928.

As I turned into the driveway, I thought about my brand new granddaughter. Before she was born, I decided that she too should learn about Porsches. In fact, when she was less than a week old, she already had her first three "Hot Wheels" Porsches.

I felt calm and satisfied as I looked at the 928 from the doorway of the garage. It had been a nice little trip and I smiled at my musings. For I realized that as much as I had been satisfied by my ride through the night in the 928, it was also satisfying to think that sometime, late at night while sitting behind the wheel, Alexandra may blame her fascination with Porsches on me.
