Your Humble Editor welcomes you to 928 Journal

September Song

Leonard Laub

Greetings, Club members!

To paraphrase the song, it's been a while (all right, a long, long time) since the last issue of
928 Journal came out on the Web. This was due mostly to overload at my desk, and I personally apologize to the Club for this delay and the resulting frustration.

However, the good news starts with the steady stream of excellent material contributed by Club members, a selection of which makes up this new issue, with lots more in the cooker and forthcoming in issues of the near (yes!) future.

This 37-page issue features two detailed discussions (by David Lloyd and Dave Cooley) of preparing 928s for the track (yes, you know, the place where only "real Porsches" go), a substantial tutorial (by Rich Andrade) on engine oil (concentrating on synthetics), an engaging personal history (by Jim Stadter) of 928 ownership, several regular columns (by Phil Tong and Roger Woodbury) and features (including Brian Buxton's 928 Market Report), and the first appearance of a new column ("Hoarsepower") by Gene O'Rourke.

More and more of you have gotten the journalistic bug and are contributing how-to articles (often documenting your own service work), reports on Club activities (of which there have been quite a few lately, some social, some technical, some touring), and personal reminiscences and observations.

Keep 'em coming! If it's interesting to you, it's probably also interesting to many of your fellow Club members. Send thoughts, drafts, pictures with captions, or anything else you think fit to me, as attachments to e-mail.

This plan is still nominally in place, but awaits resolution of some basic issues of production and mailing costs and advertising revenues, which need to be sorted out so that the print 928 Journal does not consume a disproportionate amount of your dues.

This is, in turn, part of an overall sorting out of Club activities and priorities. From the beginning, this Club has been an organization of volunteers, just as is PCA, whose membership is 100 times larger than ours. The 928 Owners Club will thrive as members pitch in, as
