many of you already have, to support and conduct the operations of the Club at all levels. I look forward to running articles reviewing progress along these lines in future issues.
Meanwhile, the Club is already underway with expanded services to members, one of which is a series of major how-to articles of a sort which eventually (another project requiring volunteer effort) will coalesce as a practical service reference. The first such article was prepared by Wally Plumley and deals with the replacement and tensioning of the all-important timing belt.
More such articles, large and small are underway, in planning, or in concept somewhere among the Club's membership. Some of these will run as articles in 928 Journal, but all will be turned into Adobe Acrobat PDF documents (thanks in large part to the volunteer effort of member John Homs, who developed the clean layout for these documents), which can be downloaded from this site, viewed on any computer screen (you'll need the free Acrobat Reader for this), and then printed on any printer to yield a good-looking paper document you can carry to the garage (or wherever).
We also have several other major resources underway, including a directory of service shops with comments (positive or otherwise) by members, and a listing of members available to help with emergencies on the road.
The translation of all of these resources from concept to substantial reality absolutely depends on major, sustained effort by many members, as does the development of the Club's meeting program and most other Club activities. All interested parties should sound off as soon as possible so these efforts can be assigned and coordinated.
Some housekeeping: the last issue had some errata; Kim Crumb's report should have referred (and did refer, before Yours Truly threw in some typos) to a Mercedes V8 (not V12) and a Porsche 911 (not 922). The charming poem at the end of the last issue was contributed by Jim Komiak (whose name was misspelled "Korniak").
