Center Console Removal

I'll take a crack at it. Comments, criticisms, and clarifications are welcome. I did it few weeks ago
to the '88 but I doubt I have everything here. tools: flat, philips, 8mm, 10mm. - remove both side
console panels. Trays do not have to be removed, but may need to be unfastened on the panel
side. screws are on bottom edge middle-ish and near switches (careful with the leather), -
remove center vent flap frame. Pulls straight back toward the rear, pry ever so gently on corners,
that is where the little plastic posts are, - remove two bolts which are on the underside of the
center vent, - remove screws on underside of dash - each side, - remove screws on each side
below switches, - unplug appropriate electrical connectors along bottom, both sides (window
switches, etc), and disconnect lighter contacts, don't short! I did not disconnect the climate
controls because I thought I would need to test them out once the car was started, to find what
the problem was. - I removed the blau deck. This was not so much something that was needed
on removal, but, it was much easier when it came to assembly time. The console should now be
able to move a bit - BUT it is still bound by the tranny selector. It's quite a snug fit around the
steering pod too. - pull down boot and remove both side screws on T handle. Engage emerg
and shift to N. You should now have enough room to move the console back a bit more.
Console gets bound a bit by those retaining wires on selector, but be gentle and you do not
need to remove them. This is as far as I needed to take it. Full removal is not too far away. When
you put it back together and everything works better than it did, and you also have no extra
parts, have a beer
