Dash Recovering
I had a local (Oakland, CA) shop recover my dash in black vinyl. Cost was about $125 and it
looked great. Another, more expensive alternative would be to have it completely recovered by
JUST DASHES in southern CA. Their business is rebuilding padded dash. I have visited their
plant and the transformation is truly remarkable. They grind, put on new padding and then
vacuform a new skin (texture your choice). Lifetime guarantee. The 928 dash or pod would be
easy for them, their specialty is restoration of late 50s US car dashes.
I ended up not using my recovered pod. I neglected to have the shop grind some extra relief
around the switch holes. And, my pod didn't have the chamfered relief around the ignition
switch found on '86 and later pods. If you use JUST DASHES, send them a junk switch so they
can ensure it will function in the recovered pod. I lucked out and found an '86 pod used for
$200 and just installed that. I still have my recoverd pod which I may have fixed if/when the
new(er) pod cracks.
