Clogged Fuel Filter

I own an 82 928 that was recently having problems accelerating to high speed....at about
4000rpm I was getting a horrible hesitation that felt like the fuel was being cut on and off and
then would disappear once I lifted off the pedal.

I ordered a fuel filter from David Roberts at 928 Specialists who suggested that I change my fuel
filter every 15,000 miles or once a year...and that did it. I am accelerating smoothly again and
my engine has that great whining sound back again.

I write this for those of you who might be suffering from the same problem, or haven't
remembered to change your fuel filter.

Another word of warning!!! If you ever pull up in front of a gas station and you see a big
tanker truck filling the pumps..DO NOT FILL UP!!! The fella at the station told me that when the
fuel is being filled into the big tanks it stirs up silt and dirt particles that will fill up your filter
with soot.

I learned this first hand in Orlando with an old Audi 5000T...I filled up at an Amoco while the
tanker was filling. Then half way into the tank of fuel my car died in the middle of the toll road.
I had it towed to the shop and the mechanic told me my gas tank was loaded with dirt and grit
from a bad batch of gas.

I know that most service stations are required to change their filters, but it happened to me and
it could happen to you. So watch for those big tanker trucks.
