New Cup holder and question

Hey - I finally found a nice high quality cupholder. Turns out the guy that makes them is right up the road in Northern VA. They are high quality and sturdy. Best thing is though, you cannot even see them unless you are looking for them. Pics below and his website is www.ultimatecupholders.com

You have to choose a model to purchase based on Porsche make, since ours are not listed yet, he advised to use this model, and it works great.
Boxster/996
I told him I would ask a question though before he posts that they will fit 928's.

1 - Do all the model years have the same overlapping carpet panel that you see right at the top of the cupholder? If not, he will need to specify what models should work. James, you have a bunch...HA what do you say? You need at least 5 inches from carpet edge to board overlap for it to fit (mine is just slightly over 5 inches).

You see, the cool way it works is that there is a top part that is slightly bent. When it is inserted underneath the overlap board, it holds well. The inside is covered with felt so not scratch your coffee mugs etc. It can be bent to adjust to different sizes. He has a deal if you buy 2, 5 bucks off I think. Mine was 31.24 including the shipping and tax. Not exactly cheap, but it is not a cheap product either. You cannot even tell it is there while you are driving. Of course it also fits on the passenger side.

Anyway - there you go.......year long search successful!

So it is actually sitting on the floor and the "holder" part goes UP in to the underside of the carpeted center console side panel??? Just want to be sure I have this right.

If that is in fact how it works then it should work for every 928 as they all have the carpeted side panels on either side of the center console... Great idea btw and if that is not how this one works, I think I am going to patent my idea and make one like I just described! LOL! That said, a tall cup would probably interfere with your leg if it were on the drivers side, but as noted you could put it on the passenger side and as long as no one was sitting there you would be in great shape.

Correct James...that is indeed how it works,,sorry you just lost your patent! Yes it is quite ingenious isn't it?

I will let the guy know it will likely fit all 928's with the caveat that they need at least 5 inches from the floor to the lip of the flap.

I am going to get one for the passenger side for the wife too.

good, i've been looking for something of the sort. that should work out well. could you take a shot of its placement with you in, im curious about clearance for driving. making sure the cup or the holder are not hit by the right leg when shifting etc...

Emmanuelli,

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like it would work fine for the driver if he used it on the passenger side w/o a passenger sitting there.. Might be able to make it work on the passenger side even WITH a passenger, but seems like it would be REALLY tough to make that work on the drivers side...

Nope - no problem there as well, unless you have foot tall drink, you will not know it is there. You might kick it only if you bring your foot back all the way to the seat when you get out....otherwise I never know it is there. I have a regular Starbucks flip top type thermos in it,,,,no issues.

Here are some Pics. You can move it a little further up if you like. But you won't be putting your foot that far back while you are driving anyway.
