We have the opposite problem down here in Florida Brad. Air conditioners fail when the drain line gets clogged with "glop" and algae. I own some rental properties; I've learned how to tape the hose from a wet/dry vac to the drain line to suck out the crap and make the air conditioner work on the cheap. Most of us down here don't have heat- We have heat pumps that are basically an air conditioner that can work in reverse. This works fine in my house down to about 7 degrees C/ 45 degrees F, which happens about two nights per year.

Good luck!
