Guages stopped working was created by Saskgman
Hey guys, new member here.
Just bought my first Porsche in March, and slowly working out all the kinks.
Anyways, list of stuff i have done in the last few weeks....

Fuel lines
Bosh alt
new plugs and wires
dist cap and rotor
Took out and cleaned fuse panel, replaced all fuses with new
Cleaned all ground points on car, except the one under dash
New door handle.

problem:
After doing each stage of repair I started the car in garage and all guages worked great, finally my volt meter was reading right. Took the car out for a test spin the other day, and the guages were working as i pulled out of garage, then as i put it in drive or hit a bump they went out, but lights still worked. Took it for a brisk run, and they came back on. Stopped at store and then went to restart, the warning light started blinking, and heard a buzzing sound from fuse panel, and my signal lights indicator light is blinking.

I still have door panel off and there are some wires hanging there still, do they need to be hooked back up to something??? I rechecked my fuses, and all seem fine. My fuse panel diagram doesn't show a "guages" fuse, so kinda stumped. I also posted over at Renn, but that forum gets so busy alot of questions get over passed quick.

Any ideas would be great!!

Thx
Gord

Nothing like chasing an intermitant short. I would reconnect all wires and check for a loose ground or broken wire as a start.

And now that I think of it, the interior light doesn't work. Are they not suppose to be a common spot to short., as it used to work before, and I was playing with it one day... hmmm will have to check that when I get home...

Hey Gord;
Glad to have you here;
while you are driving, reach under the right side of the dash in behind the gauges and push on the harness, and you can even squeeze the gauge cluster to see if its loose. if anything changes you have loose wire (Been told that myself a few times:rolleyes:)

The int light len's rock back and forth. there are 3 spots. on; off; door.
[or maybe its off; on; door] :confused:

BTW pictures really help and you guys may want to start these topics in your [member car profile] or at least document your repair in your car profile thread.

With the age of our cars and how crappy the rubber/plastic bits are from Germany many of the lights will break after you mess with them...sometimes even just turning the rocker lights on or off will cause them to break and then BINGO! They short on the exposed body above the light...

Must have been something loose in fuse panel.... wiggled the board, pushed all connectors in again, and wiggled ground wires.. voila, works!!..
Weird, cause i did that the other day, and the interior light works too...

I can see this car making me more grey than i already am...

My kids made me go gray starting at age25. The car kind of keeps me sane.
