If you dont want to use the bolts there is a stud kit that you can get, no first hand experience though.

I used the stud kit because it was suggested. I suspect it is much easier to put the pan on with the studs, then with the bolts, as I have done both, and recall getting aggravated with the bolts under the front of the motor.

I was in a hurry and never got it but I think the next time the engine comes out (this winter) ILL put the studs in and recheck the bottom end. I might even do rod bearings this time, . . . but with the engine out and on a stand :D

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I have put the oil pan back on and in the process I was wishing I had the stud kit. I manged to to get it back on by resting it on the bolts from the clutch slave. The bolts are just snug for now until I get a better torque wrench.
