Vacuum Modulator

Where 'O' where is my modulator? :confused:
My 86.5 has very hard shifting after installing a new drive tube. I feel that something has come off the transmission during the work by a local shop. Went back asking them to look for a loose vacuum line. No luck.
I looked around on both sides of the transmission and could not find the modulator as described by others. Did not see any loose lines. I am hard bent on fixing this myself. I do not trust any of the local shops I know of.

Look on the left side for a round device that looks like two small pie pans stuck face-to-face. There will be a black rubber cap in the center. The vacuum line will enter from the side.

The vacuum line should have manifold vacuum. There should be 16-18" at idle; vacuum should drop momentarily when the throttle is quickly opened, should climb to mid-twenties when throttle is abruptly closed.

The vacuum line comes out of the tunnel over the torque tube, runs to the back of the intake manifold. The line is partly rubber tubing, partly steel tubing over the torque tube. Repairing or replacing the part over the torque tube is difficult, but you can always run a new rubber line if you have to.
