Hello

The first photo that you posted is the fuel pressure accumulator, not a fuel pump.

The 1978 & 1979s had two fuel pumps, one an in-tank andthe external one that you posted.

Depending upon the build date of your 1978, different items are shown in PET.

#1 Internal fuel pump:
928 608 013 00

#7 External fuel pump:
911 608 102 00
911 608 102 02

#29 Fuel accumulator:
928 110 197 05 or 07

#39 Fuel filter:
928 110 147 09

My 1979 928 was not driven for over 10 years and the fuel wasn't drained. To get it running, I had to replace the fuel pumps, fuel accumulator, rebuild the fuel distributor and replace all the fuel injectors.

Some of the very early 1978s had different fuel plumbing.

I found this in the 1978 Service Info Tech diagram. It shows what you describe.

I don't believe the fuel accumulator can be rebuilt. I'll send you a document regarding the fuel distributor rebuild that I did.
