shop manuals. which one is the best value? was created by jcholva
inquiring because I'm a novice auto mechanic you may say, basic Maintenace knowledge. all the Porsche mechanics i have spoken to kind of spooked me on working on my car. is this the truth? any suggestion on shop manuals would help. thanks

The Porsche factory workshop manuals are the reference. You'll have to find a set from someone who bought them, as they're long out of print. The silver bound sets are updated, the red covered are from earlier model years.
There are several supplemental manuals such as updates on model changes.
Chilton made a manual that I've heard is not so useful.
You might find a CD-ROM disk with all of these manuals scanned to PDF files, do a search and see if it is still available.
This is an excellent tech tip website: www.nichols.nu/tips.htm

If you have an earlier model and need the red manuals, I have a nine volume set in very good condition I'd let go for $700 plus whatever the USPS Media shipping would be to your location.
I purchased them awhile back in lieu of obtaining the grey versions that I've read are more specifically for the later models (which I needed since my S4 is a '90 model), although I can't say I know what all of the differences between to two versions are.

Roger (928SRUS) has them available on a thumb drive for $20. Go to the website and search "Jim Morehouse CD Set."
