The first two years 1978 - 1979 Porsche 928 production used a less efficient refrigerant compressor. From model year 1980 to 1995, a Denso compressor was used. My 1979 928 needed new A/C coolant lines, so my mechanic Dan at Exotic Motorwerks suggested an interesting upgrade - install the second generation compressor along with compatible A/C lines. A replacement receiver/dryer was also installed.
There are a lot of parts for attachment that are also needed. I've created a PDF document that outlines the entire process. Contact me at electronikrepair@earthlink.net and I'll send the document.
Given that the newer compressor is more efficient, even when using R134A refrigerant the 1979 A/C blow COLD and has better cooling at idle and low RPMs.
