Will not downshift into passing gear

I have an 89 S4 auto. Runs great until I punch the pedal to pick up speed or try for passing gear. It will then choak until I release the pedal. After that it will continuially to run normally. I just replaced the sensors under the intake as they were deterioriated. I heard that would solve the problem. That seems to have given me some more power but hasn't solved the issue. Thanks

Dose it act the same when the engine is cold (better or worse)

Did you say you had the intake off? so did you do a refresh?

Has it always been like this since you have had it and if not did it happen sudden or slowly get worse over time.
