Exhaust Question

Exhaust Question was created by GlennS
I need to replace my muffler and probably part of the exhaust. I have seen borla exhausts but they seem a little too pricey for what I want (I just drive for the fun of it). Any suggestions for a straight muffler replacement? Where I should get the parts and is it something I should let a regular shop (Midas/Mieneke) do or a specialty shop install?

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glen, I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend.

Contact mark at 928 international
www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=928%20int..._zrfgoTt68BvXEteSaZw

check with Mark for his prices on some used parts
and then ask at your local shop so you see the difference.

Now Glen;
Some guys remove the rear muffler and install a RMB (rear muffler bypass)
Around $300-$400

I hope this info helps

I spoke to my local porsche specialist and he recommends the rear muffler bypass, he said it sounds pretty nice. Any experience with the RMB?

Thanks,

Glenn

Some guys say they are to loud and some say they are fine.
I think they add about 3-5 HP

I have the RMB on my 87. I still run the factory cats and the big resonators. Sound is abit louder than stock but not enough to cause concern from the police. It is a nice low exaust note. You know it's a V8 but can talk at a normal tone at hwy speed. When you put you're foot down is when it comes to life.
I recommend this upgrade.

So far I have seen the rear muffler bypass (RMB) for the 86.5 and later model years (928 international and 928 motor sports). I have a 1980 model and the exhaust is different. I have not found a source for the RMB for my model year yet. I'll lay the car up for the winter before I install it, so I'm not in a rush. Any ideas on where I might find an RMB for my year or where I might look.

Thanks,

There are no RMB's for an '80 model.

You can drop that rear muffler completely but an exhaust shop will have to fabricate a pipe for you and/or a pipe with a nice tip on it to take up from where you delete the rear muffler.

No easy and affordable bolt on options for the pre-86.5 cars...
