Replacing alternator was created by Jjburns15
Just wanted to know if anyone has ever replaced an alternator on a 1989 928 S4 or if it is a job for a shop?
Thank you everyone for your continued support !

If it is similar to the earlier models, it will take longer to jack the car up and place it on jack stands than it will to remove the alternator. Be sure to disconnect the battery first (duh) and place something under the car approximately 4" tall to set the alternator on while you remove the cooling shroud which is much easier to do once the alternator has been removed. Once the shroud is removed, it is easy to disconnect the positive cable the ignition cable. I just had my Paris Rhone unit rebuilt for less than $200 which is much less than the $1500 replacement from Porsche.
