Just a recent 928 owner that came without a 1989 owner's or repair manual . I am still getting familiar with it, have looked all over and cannot find the location of the dipstick to determine the automatic transmission fluid level. Anyone?
the 928s with automatic transmissions do not have a dip stick. The at has a plastic tank at the side that when cleaned up you can see the AT level.
The proper procedure to check the fluid level is:
Warm up the transmission oil, best to drive a bit prior to checking the level.
The 928 needs to be on a level surface (hoist or underground pit), run the transmission through all gears. Put in neutral with parking brake set, engine idling.
Shine a bright light on the tank. You can see the max and min hot levels on the plastic. If the level is low, use a pump with hose to fill as necessary. The A/T fluid is Dexron III (same as used in the power steering)
